My name is Rick Hutchins (Hutch),  and I believe that life is a journey, not to be wasted.  We are here only for a short time and we should make the best of it while we are here.  I believe in skating through life at a rather quick pace.  I have many interests and I go from here to there, and back.  Call it the circle of life. Things I currently enjoy:

Teaching -  This remains my first love (other than my wife & family).  I have always enjoyed teaching, sharing my knowledge

and helping others to improve or learn something new.  I believe that one can learn almost anything, given the curiosity

and willingness to put in the time and effort.

Photography - Every year I strive to become a better photographer; with concentration on landscapes & sunsets, wildlife,

ballparks, and other interesting shots.  I look for color, light & shadow, patterns & texture.  I am on the Board of the

Goose Pond Lake Association and I maintain a website where I place many pictures, among other things.  I also create

annual calendars for our membership, and have done a number of photobooks for our organization.  Go here:  www.gpla-goosepond.org

Travel - My wife and I have traveled to Portugal, TanzaniaItaly, France, Wales, England, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador  (Machu Picchu and the Galapagos

Islands), Bermuda, Belize, Vieques, St. John, Bequia, & other Caribbean islands, and to US National Parks including the Grand Canyon, Zion, Yosemite, Death Valley, Bryce, Canyonlands, and the Arches. Our most recent trip was to Portugal.

Film - among my favorities:  Forrest Gump, Fargo, Field of Dreams, Rocky, Saving Private Ryan, Raging Bull, Full Metal Jacket, Babe, Stand & Deliver,

Schindlers List, Up, Into The Wild, Slumdog Millionaire, Bend It Like Beckham, and many others.

Foreign films: The Promised LandLife is Beautiful, Cinema Paradiso, Das Boot, Run Lola Run, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Bicycle Thief.

Videography - Graduate school courses in film first got me interested in film & video production.  Most of my video is now a hobby.

Baseball - Played (high school, college, adult clubs) and coached (youth & college level). I have been active in a fantasy baseball league (our 43rd

year), one of the oldest fantasy leagues (much like Rotisserie) in America.  I created and continue to maintain a website for this league.  Go here:  www.badleague.us

Ice Hockey - I have been active in ice hockey since 8th grade, played in high school, and with various clubs since then, and coached at the youth &

college level. I continue to play year-round, and I have competed in the USA National Championships in Wesley Chapel, FL where we won the

70+ championship in 2019.

Recreational - Swimming, kayaking - We live on a pond, so why not?  Golf, hiking & biking, snowshoeing & xc skiing - The hills & mountains, roads &

rail trails of NH & VT.  Former soccer referee.

Reading - Primarily non-fiction e.g. Yellow BirdsUnbroken, Wild, Seabiscuit, Into Thin Air, Touching the Void, Endurance, Between A Rock And A Hard Place,

and other inspirational stories; fiction by John Grisham, Dan Brown, humor by Andy Rooney, Bill Bryson.  Lately I have concentrated on reading                  baseball biographies or autobiographies, partly for their historical significance.  I have read books on Mickey Mantle, David Wells, Derek Jeter,

Joe DiMaggio, Henry Aaron, Johnny Damon, Bob Zimmer, Casey Stengel, Babe Ruth, Roger Clemens, Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, and Ted Williams, among

others.  I have concluded that none of them were heroes and that they all had their faults, much like the rest of us.

Music - I have an eclectic taste in music and don't like to be placed in a "box".  I have an extensive list in I-Tunes but use Spotify to find new (or old)

music.  It depends on my mood but I often listen to ambient music (Air, Deuter, The Flashbulb), with cello, harp, violin, piano, and guitar.  I love

songs with a melancholy tone (Greg Laswell, Nick Drake, Sara Bareilles), oldies (British bands, Stevie Wonder, Ricky Nelson), disco & funk (The                    Gap Band, Rick James, Donna Summer), pop (U-2, Queen, Coldplay, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith), but also enjoy Electronica, House, and Trance

         (Kraftwerk, Ratatat, Trentmoller).

The Beatles - My wife and I "grew up" listening to the Beatles, and our late son Mark continued the strong family interest and became a

musician/music producer/sound engineer.  I have created an extensive database of Beatles info, and I own a web domain called

MopTop Medley.com (a work in progress but not yet live).
